The reason culture is so difficult to define is because our culture is always changing.
The reading quoted Brecht saying, "Art is never without consequences." This means every piece of media and text we throw out into the universe, changes our culture. Texts have consequences; they slowly but most definitely change the world around us.
When defining culture, you can't put boundaries on where culture begins and where it ends. There is no such thing as "good" culture and "bad" culture. Just because it is constantly changing doesn't mean it is moving from good to bad, or bad to good.
You may think Keeping Up With The Kardashians is "bad" culture, but with 8 seasons and millions of viewers, some might tell you otherwise.
Was there a previous golden age of culture?
Nobody uses Myspace anymore, is that folk culture?
In the long run, I feel like you just have to look at culture in the grand scheme of things. It doesn't matter if its well-known, less-known, funny, sad, important, stupid; It is ALL our culture. And if you don't like it, don't worry. It's changing!
